Avril Lavigne Drops F-Bomb On Tampa Bay

Avril Lavigne
Avril Lavigne did a live show, this weekend at the Tampa Bay Ray's Tropicana Ball Park. When she started, her mic didn't work. She sang the song, anyway and when she found a live mike, she dropped the F-Bomb to an audience of baseball fans in a supposed "family setting."

The Rays issued a formal apology for the profanity.

My question is why would the Rays hire Avril Lavigne, in the first place. I have a video clip of the offensive language followed by proof of the impressive lack of talent radiating from Miss Lavigne. The F-bombs fall at the very beginning...

This woman is proof that a strong record company can turn any reasonably attractive, whiny voiced female into a superstar!  In the spirit of Paris Hilton, Avril is famous for being famous.

Sad and confusing why people spend good money on this crap.

Wacky 500 At Indianapolis

Photo by General Tom

I just came back from the Indianapolis 500. This year I sat in the North Vista. This is something new for me. We had great views of turns 3 and 4, sitting under the sun with the "little people."

You may have heard that the race had an odd ending with rookie JR Hildebrand, leading the race on the final lap and smashing into the wall of the final turn. The checkered flag was literally "In sight."

Former winner Dan Wheldon won the race. He had not led at any point, except for the final few hundred yards.

At one point, Danica Patrick led the race. The fans went wild! She was easy to spot in her bright green Go Daddy car. She is a favorite at Indy! A late pit stop took her out of contention. Too bad. She always seems to be within striking distance.

A few other things made this one of the wackier 500's in recent memory. When we entered the main gate, 90 minutes before the race, there were so many fans entering, so quickly, that the ticket takers simply asked us to "hold up" our tickets!

The racetrack is surrounded, for the most part, by residential neighborhoods. For $20, you can park in someone's front yard. This practice has been going on for years. While taking a "short cut" back to my car, I asked a State Trooper for directions. He said he couldn't help me...he was from Ft. Wayne and unfamiliar with the area. He was sitting in his car and wanted to start a conversation.  I couldn't stay and talk, there was a traffic jam wainting for me!

The souvenier stands seemed to be busier than I remember from previous years. I noticed this while standing in the beer line.

This was the 100th anniversary of the first running of the Indianapolis 500. The track's surrounding was, as usual in great shape, the workers were friendly and efficient. But, the traffic! Good God, we've been doing this for 100 years...can we figure out how to route traffic?

New York's New Taxi

The selection process began as early as 2007. The quest was to find a new taxi that would be able to do the job in New York City for the next ten years.

The winner is the Nissan NV200. It's not available for public consumption, but is expected to be dodging potholes in the Big Apple as early as late 2013.

The following is from a Nissan Press Release:

Planned innovations, which respond to direct input from drivers, owners and passengers, include:
•2.0L 4-cylinder powertrain, engineered to enhance the emission performance and fuel efficiency of the taxi fleet;
•Ample room for four passengers and their luggage, substantially improved over current taxi models;
•A low-annoyance horn with exterior lights that indicate when the vehicle is honking, helping reduce noise pollution;
•Sliding doors with entry step and grab handles, providing easy entry and exit;
•Transparent roof panel (with shade) that will provide unique views of the city;
•Independently controlled rear air conditioning with a grape phenol-coated air filter to improve cabin air quality;
•Attractive, breathable, antimicrobial, environmentally friendly and easy-to-clean seat fabric that simulates the look and feel of leather;
•Overhead reading lights for passengers and floor lighting to help locate belongings;
•A mobile charging station for passengers that includes a 12V electrical outlet and two USB plugs;
•A six-way adjustable driver’s seat that features both recline and lumbar adjustments, even with a partition installed;
•Standard driver’s navigation and telematics systems.
Nissan also focused on passenger safety when designing the NV200 taxi. Key safety features include:
•Front and rear-seat occupant curtain airbags, as well as seat-mounted airbags for the front row;
•Standard traction control and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC);
•Sliding doors to reduce the risk of pedestrians, cyclists and other motorists getting struck by doors opening unexpectedly;
•Lights that alert other road users that taxi doors are opening.
With more than 13,000 taxis traveling a cumulative 500 million miles per year, durability was a key factor in the “Taxi of Tomorrow” selection process.

Projected cost is around $29,000. (Real cost is always higher.)

So here we have the largest city in the United States using 13,000 new taxi cabs built by a Japanese company with majority French ownership, manufactured in Mexico and paid for with American dollars.

ATM Repairman Swaps $200K w/Funny Money

This story caught my eye as an ATM repairman was arrested for allegedly taking $200,000 from bank of America ATMs in and around San Francisco, last summer. Authorities say that 64 year old Samuel Kioskli replaced the stolen 20 dollar bills with crude photocopies.

The bank made sure that none of their customers got stiffed with the bogus bills. Kioskli made his mistake when he skipped town, leaving his wife behind. He was automatically being sought as a missing person.

Cops caught up with him in Arizona. He'll be in court on Tuesday where we will see that stealing from a bank is frowned upon, unlike when the bank is stealing (with a bailout) from us.

Lombardi Gravesite Volunterily Maintained by Jets Fan

The NFL and the Green Bay Packers and family members apparently don't care, but a 58 year old retired New Jersey cop does care. About what? About the final resting place of Coach Vince Lombardi.

Gary Martin is a New York Jets fan, but he remembers the legendary coach and travels three hours, round trip, to maintain the coach's final resting place.

Lombardi died in 1970. His grave site had been neglected. It's good to see that there are people like Gary Martin, in the world, doing the right thing.

Barry Bonds Hits A REAL Home Run

Before you read this, I want you to know that this was done with absolutely no media hype.

You may remember hearing about the Giants' fan who was beaten into a coma, outside of Dodger Stadium on opening day. The victim's name is Bryan Stow. He's remains in critical condition.

Former San Francisco Giants' slugger, Barry Bonds, has quietly volunteered to pay for the college education of Bryan Stow’s two young children.

Bonds visited Stow on April 22 and stayed for an hour and left a signed baseball bat.

Class act, Mr. Bonds!

Teacher Flushed For Making Kids Clean Toilets

First, some background. The Kennelly School in Hartford, Connecticut is an inner-city elementary school.  The student body is predominately Hispanic with a 5% White population.  It has an excellent academic reputation. The kids wear uniforms.

Catherine Saur is the Art teacher at Kennelly. For the past two years, Saur required her students to clean the bathroom of a portable classroom, if of course, they used the facilities.

Like I say, this had been going on for two years when, last week, a parent blew the whistle. Saur is now on "Administrative Leave."

The school's principal, Peter Dart, says that he was unaware of the practice. (I wonder if he ever leaves his office?)

Let's look at this logically. The teacher is teaching the kids to clean up after themselves? The kids are learning discipline?

Horrid! Fire the bitch and throw her in jail!

I should point out that I learned to clean toilets, by hand, in the Army. You can bet your a$$ that I can clean a toilet, shower stall, sink, etc. with the best of them!   (If more husbands did this, we'd have fewer divorces.)

Cleaning toilets didn't scar me for life. It was probably one of the most worthwhile thing that I did in the Army.

Beatrice's "Toilet Seat Hat" Fetches $131,000

Princess Beatrice & "The Hat"

Somebody dumped $131,000 on Princess Beatrice's hat which she wore to her cousin's wedding, last month.

The hat was sold on E-bay with proceeds going to UNICEF and to Children In Crisis.

The fuss seemed to take Princess Beatrice by surprise. For those of you (like me) who don't know, Beatrice is the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

(Mrs.) Mitch Says No

This weekend, Mitch Daniels announced that he will not be running for the Republican nomination for President of the United States.

His delay in saying yes or no had been tied to family concerns. In 1987 he turned down the appointment to fill Dan Quayle's U.S. Senate seat.

Daniels and his wife Cheri have four daughters. For four years, the Daniels were divorced.  Cheri remarried, then divorced her second husband and returned to Mitch.

While in college, at Princeton, Daniels was arrested for drug possession.  He has made no effort to conceal this fact.

The Daniels' desire for privacy on either matter is reason enough for Mitch to stay out of the race.

Just as well.  I don't think he could have won the nomination nor the general  election.  His act sells in Indiana.  This may come as a shock to many Hoosiers, but there's a lot of USA outside of Indiana.

Apocalypse: Later - We're Still Here!

Harold Camping

Did you blow your paycheck, thinking that the world was going to end at (or shortly before) 6PM?

We now know that Harold Camping's prediction was wrong. Who's Harold Camping? He's an 89 year old retired civil engineer who owns a multi million dollar religious radio ministry. I'm not calling this guy a false prophet, but he sure blew this one!

So, if you still want to know when the world will end, I'll tell you. that I don't know -

God knows...and he's not talking.

HS Bribes Kids With A New Car

Three Texas High Schools got together to give their students an incentive (bribe) to study a little harder.

Byron Nelson High School, along with Northwest High School and Steele Accelerated High School somehow managed to get a new Camaro coupe donated. They gave it away in a contest that involved academic achievement and class attendance.

This is cool.....except for the fact that the administrators thought that such a bribe is a necessary incentive. What I mean is the fact that, in the real world, dedication and hard work will usually reward a person with a "prize" of similar or greater value than a new Camaro.

But then....I'm not thinking like a teenager...

Guy Names His Business For Obama

This was a "head scratcher" for me, but I think I have it figured out.

Two months ago, Sam Alhanik bought a gas station in Columbia, South Carolina. His gas station is located across the street from the "El Cheapo" gas station. Alhanik decided to rename his business after Obama.

He says that it cost him $4,000 to rename the business, complete with Obama Logos and pictures....

Alhanik, a native of Yeman, says that business is very good.

This, of course, opens up an infinite number of possibilities. I'm thinking fast food restaurants, bowling alleys. Maybe Eggo could name a waffle after him?

Arnold's Little Problem

Mildred Baene & Son
By now, we have all heard about Arnold Schwarzenegger's indiscretion. The word, indiscretion is a little soft. The guy screwed up. You see, when you cheat on your wife, it is a betrayal of her. If you have four kids, 5 people are affected. Six if you count the illegitimate kid.

The mistress is not a victim. Mildred Baene is as guilty as Arnie. Some reports say that she was chasing Arnold. Who cares? She's an adult with children. She should have known better. He should have known better.

Arnold's little problem is between his ears...and it affects his ability to know when to zip and unzip.

I remember when Maria and Arnold became engaged to be married.  Looking at her and who she was and looking at him and who he was.  I thought it was weird.

I'll leave it at that.

Trump Won't Run

Donald Trump announced today that he will not run for president. Why? Whatever he gives for a reason, it doesn't matter. This is why it doesn't matter. For the past month or two he's been making noises like he wanted to run for president. Today he announces that he will not run. What changed his mind?

My theory is that his recent campaign was not for the presidential nomination. It was for attention, so he could hype the ratings for his TV show, The Celebrity Apprentice. You see, even though Donald Trump is enormously successful in the business world, he is enormously shallow. Talking about being president has put his mug on TV - almost every night - for the past few weeks. Face time on TV should help his TV show.

Higher ratings means higher advertising revenue. It's all about the money.

He was "considering" a presidential run "for the money."  I saw this coming...click here...and the media didn't see this coming?

Scary.

Jerry Lewis Stepping Down

It's the end of an era. Comedian Jerry Lewis recently celebrated his 85th birthday and says that he will perform his final Muscular Dystrophy Telethon this year. I say that it's the end of an era since he's been doing MDA telethons, on Labor Day weekend since 1966. These telethons have raised more than a billion dollars. Lewis started with one TV station in '66 in New York City where he raised a million dollars. Since then he's expanded the telethon to a network of more than 170 stations with $59 million raised last year.

Lewis will remain National Chairman of MDA as he has since the 1950's.

Some people doubt the sincerity of Jerry Lewis and his MDA fundraising. I'll tell you this, for years I've worked locally with fundraisers for MDA. The people affected with Muscular Dystrophy consider Jerry Lewis a god.

That's good enough for me.

Thank you, Mr. Levitch.

"Playboy Club" Coming To NBC

Amber Heard/Playboy Club

The NBC television network is planning to add "The Playboy Club" to it's fall lineup. The show will be a one hour drama, set in the 1960's, when these clubs actually existed.

The show will feature Amber Heard.  Don't look for any nudity on this show.

I expect "Playboy Club" to be a nostalgic Hollywood  look at the '60's, like "Mad Men."

I'm surprised that nobody has copied this theme until now.

Pamela Anderson Wants To Ban Horse Drawn Carriages In New York City

Pamela Anderson wants to ban horse drawn carriage rides in New York City. She says that these horses live miserable lives and that they should be free to roam in open fields.

Yes, Pamela, many horses (& people) do live miserable lives! Yes, it would be nice to let all of God's creatures play all day...like kids in the summer!  Unlike you, some of us need to work everyday and are currently paid up on our taxes. (How's that tax problem working for you sweetie?)

New York City is a lot different than Hollywood. If the horses are being mistreated in New York (or anywhere) this must be addressed. In addition, ignoring this problem must also be addressed!

In short, I say, "FIX THE PROBLEM," not "THROW AWAY THE PRACTICE."  These rides are expensive, the horses should be treated well.  If not, the owners should be arrested.

For some of us, Pamela, a "date" may occasionally involve a horse drawn carriage ride....it's much more romantic than getting another tattoo.

Shelton High School Prom UPDATE!

Sonali Rodrigues & James Tate
Back on Friday, May 6th, Shelton (CT) High School senior James Tate got in trouble as he asked a girl to go with him to the prom.

You may have heard by now that he taped large cardboard letters to the side of the High School's exterior wall, spelling out a very large invitation for a certain girl to be his prom date.

Let's stop right here. The prom is June 4 and it's May 6th and the kid doesn't have a date. He decides to go for broke and ask a girl, for all the school to see! She, Sonali Rodrigues, accepts...mission accomplished...well, kinda.

The invite involved trespassing and some danger. The punishment was in-school suspension and since the infraction occurred after April first, young James gets banned from the prom.

The story goes viral. The kid gets interviewed by Matt Lauer on NBC's Today Show. Pressure comes in from all directions, from all over the world, including a member of the Connecticut State Legislature!

Headmaster, Dr. Beth Smith reconsiders...James and Sonali will be going to the prom.

Any guesses as to where the "smart money" should go for bets on King & Queen at this year's Shelton HS Prom?
