Kim & Kris Split

So many people are raising their eyebrows about the upcoming divorce between Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries. Sure, 72 days is not a long time to be married, especially when you are aiming for "til death do us part." May I direct your attention to the prenuptial agreement!

Whatever the reason for the split, I notice that there is no outward sense of embarrassment or shame on the part of either party. That stuff isn't important if you are young, rich, famous and attractive.

I guess I just don't get it.

Doughboy Liberty

A few days ago we observed the 125th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. Then, I found this picture. It was taken on a hot July afternoon in 1918 at Camp Dodge, Iowa.  What you are looking at is a group of 18,000 soldiers, stretching 1/4 mile to form the image of the Statue of Liberty.  (Click the picture to see alarger image) The temperature reached 105 degrees and the men were dressed in heavy woolen uniforms of the day.  A specially erected tower gave the photographer the correct angle. The picture was supposed to be used to advertise for War Bonds. It was never used.

Monday Foto - Chantale

So...it's Monday and I want to offer you a high quality Monday Foto. I stumbled over this picture and I think you'll like it. The problem is that I have no idea who she is, where she is from...or anything else.  Her name may be Chantale... or maybe it's not?

If you can help me out, please leave a comment.....

Chick the image to get the full effect and have a great week!

Statue of Liberty Turns 125

I have been there three times. Visiting the Statue of Liberty is always an awesome experience.

Today is the 125th anniversary of its dedication - Liberty Enlightening the World. It sits on a 150 foot high pedestal on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. She was designed by Frédéric Bartholdi and was a gift to the United States from the people of France Liberty is of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tablet evoking the law upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. A broken chain lies at her feet.

As a 14 year old boy, my grandfather's first view of his new country was the Statue of Liberty. Pretty cool...still is.

Friday Foto - September Carrino

As I was scouring the Internet searching for a proper Friday Foto, I discovered that the uber-famous September Carrino has never been honored!

To conquer this major injustice, I decided to take action! What we have here is a nice little picture of September. If you click it, you'll get the full effect...

MD May Triple Flush Tax

It's almost funny. The state of Maryland taxes property owners a $30 flush fee. (THE FEE IS A TAX!) That's right, they're taxing you coming and going!  Well, there's talk about doubling or maybe tripling the $30 annual flush tax fee.

The flush fee goes into a fund which pays for sewage treatment plant and septic system upgrades as well as cover crops that keep pollutants from running off farms into waterways.

When someone feels the need to triple a tax, especially a questionable tax, I say that something stinks.

Wednesday Foto - Satinee Capona

Here's an interesting situation. I have a real nice picture of Satinee Capona, a 19 year old model. The problem is that I don't know anything about her. I could have waited, but some things are more important than personal tidbits.

As usual, click the image to get the full effect...and have a nice remainder of the week!

LiLo In Playboy

Yes! It's what the world has been waiting for! Lindsay Lohan is doing a photoshoot for Playboy magazine!

I'm excited about this from purely an economic standpoint. Lindsay Lohan has been unemployed for quite a while, now. She's been getting a bunch of bad press. Her attorney says that nobody wants to see his client in a movie! So she goes from a downward spiral to the pages of Playboy! Is this a great country or what?

There's more...the money. She wanted a million dollars. The magaine offered $700,000. Somehow, they met with an agreed amount! Doesn't this give you a warm and fuzzy feeling?

Publication date has not been announced. My guess that it would coincide with a real life entry or release from jail? I think they call it marketing.

The Prince And The Pourer

Before we all get excited about this story, we should remember that Prince Harry is 27, single, in the military, far from home and is one of the world's most eligible bachelors.

Prince Harry (of England, Diana's #2 son) is stationed in California where he is getting some military helicopter training. Within the past few days, Harry has gained the attention of Jessica Donaldson, a 26 year old cocktail waitress at the Andaz Hotel in San Diego.

The couple was seen in a club...drinking tequila, dancing and kissing! (Common for young military men....trust me!)

What's the big deal? I read this story at THE SUN's website. Public comment was interesting. Many were disappointed to see Harry dating an American. Others saw the tattoo and reasoned that Jessica is not "Royal material!" Others pointed out that Harry is young and he should enjoy himself.

Personally, I don't think that anything will come of this relationship. Harry will move on and our little cocktail waitress will have a nice little story to tell her grandchildren. Jessica Donaldson will become an answer to an obscure trivia question.

Age Rage Brings Suit

There is an actress who wants to remain unnamed and she is suing Amazon/IMDB for a million dollars because....are you ready for this? Because they published her age!

She says that it is difficult for a struggling, up and coming actress to find work when producers see a true and accurate age, which may indicate that an actress is washed up...even if she looks younger than she is.

I say, "What about talent?" If you've been struggling for a couple dozen years, you may be a little "short on talent" and you may want to consider a different line of work?

It is believed that IMDB discovered the plaintiff's age when she subscribed to the site's premium service - using her credit card.  She is seeking $1 million in damages.

I am practically amazed that there is an attorney in the United States who would take this case, with any expectation of winning! If the published age on the INDB is correct, I don't see a problem.

Maybe she should try suing producers who do not hire her!

Grow up.....and get a job.

Coaches Behaving Badly

Coaches Jim Harbaugh
 and Jim Schwartz  (Getty)

Usually at the conclusion of an NFL game, the two head coaches meet at the center of the field and shake hands. The losing coach offers his congratulations to the winner and maybe there's some small talk..."How are the wife and kids?" Stuff like that. Click here for the ending of the Detroit Lions/San Francisco 49ers game in Detroit.

Both coaches, Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz, acted stupidly. No-class idiots. You don't even see this kind of stuff in High School ball. There is a way to act when you win and there is a way to act when you lose. I'm sure that both coaches will have an e-mail in their in box...from the commissioner.

Massive Wreck Kills Dan Wheldon

The wreck which caused the death of Dan Wheldon.
Las Vegas Motor Speedway, October 16, 2011

The motorsport community is stunned today. Dan Wheldon was driving for Bryan Herta Autosport when he and more than a dozen other drivers were involved in  a massive wreck in turn 2 of the IZOD IndyCar World Championship race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

I have two pictures. I chose not to upload the video. I just don't feel like it. Wheldon is a two-time winner of the Indy 500. I was at that race and saw him take the checkered flag this past May.

Wheldon, an Englishman, is survived by his wife and two young sons.
Dan Wheldon poses with wife Susie (L) holding son Oliver with older son Sebastian (R),
next to the BorgWarner trophy the day after winning the Indianapolis 500 auto race in Indianapolis, Indiana, in May 2011.

We are back again, with football picks. Through 5 weeks of the NFL season, my percentage is 65%. Not bad when you consider that I am a casual fan and am not paid obscene amounts of money to argue my opinions on radio or TV...but I digress.

SAN FRANCISCO at detroit
saint louis at GREENBAY
BUFFALO at giants
jacksonville at PITTSBURGH
philadelphia at WASHINGTON

Friday Foto - Gemma Merna

So, I see that it's Friday - an excellent time for the Friday Foto. Today we feature Gemma Merna. Now, if you are "on your toes", you may remember that we featured Gemma in January of this year. Well, we're going to do it again! This time I found a better picture.

Gemma is an award winning actress in the UK. She's 27 years old and (I am told) everything that you see, here, is natural.

Sir Paul & #3 :"All You Need Is Love"

Today is October 9. Those of us in the radio biz would normally play a few extra John Lennon songs as this would have been his 71st birthday. It will also become another Beatle anniversary as Paul McCartney marries Nancy Shevell. The two have been seeing each other for four years. They became properly engaged in the spring.

This will be his third "I do," her second. The media says that Paul's family supports the union. Of Course, the media often gets it wrong, and families often mask their opinions and bloggers are often off base...a little.

Money? For the cynics among us, Nancy has "her own money." She helps her daddy operate a trucking/transportation corporation,  based in New Jersey. Her family's wealth rivals that of Paul's.

Age? He's 69, she's 51. (Do you see any gray hairs in the picture?) For the younger cynics among us who are wondering why General Tom is wasting time on this story, I'd like to point out that Paul McCartney and his partners were responsible for spreading tons of joy - during a difficult time. Aside from the gobs of money in his mattress, it only seems right that he should find happiness, love and companionship as he enters his golden years...

Bridge Stolen In Pennsylvania!

See?  No bridge!  (KDKA/CBS)

Here's a mildly shocking, mildly amusing, and a mildly sign-of-the-times story from North Beaver Township, Pennsylvania.

You see, somebody apparently stole a 50 foot long, 20 foot wide bridge sometime between September 27 and last Wednesday. The bridge was made out of corrugated steel and valued at about $100,000. State Police think that thieves used a blowtorch to cut it apart, presumably to sell it for scrap metal.

The bridge was used occasionally as a back entrance to the company property. It's in the woods along a railroad line about 60 miles north of Pittsburgh.

Where's The Beef?

Twenty eight years ago Wendy's hit a home run with their "Where's The Beef? TV ad campaign. The series features 81 year old Clara Peller of Chicago. Click for one of her many ads.

Well, Clara has left us...and Wendy's needs something. McDonalds is dominating the fast food biz and the others seem to be standing by...watching.

Wendy's is trying to re-introduce the "Where's The Beef?" ad campaign. Sad. Sad because it's an admission that they have no fresh ideas to promote their stuff. Hey guys, it doesn't fly! It's flat...it's not "New" and "Bold"...IT'S LAME. Your message is saying that your burgers haven't improved in 28 years!

Where's The Beef? No, "Where's the creativity?"
