Bryan Adams: A Grammy w/Pammy?
Sept. 29, 2005-- Bryan Adams celebrates his 25th anniversary as a recording artist with his first two-CD collection Anthology (A&M/Chronicles/UMe), to be released Oct. 18, 2005. Anthology, the biggest retrospective of his multiplatinum, Grammy®- and Oscar®-winning career not only contains all of his hits--19 of his 21 pop Top 40s--but includes two new recordings, most notably "When You're Gone" featuring pop culture idol Pamela Anderson.
Adams and Anderson, both Canadian-born, first worked together on Adams' 1999 photography book Made In Canada, for which Anderson wore nothing but a flag. The book, also starring other influential Canadian women such as Linda Evangelista, k.d. lang and Shania Twain, benefited the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The original version of "When You're Gone" appeared on Adams' 1998 album On A Day Like Today and featured former Spice Girl Melanie C.

Salvation Army
I'd like to tip my hat for the fine job being done by the Salvation Army. The recent hurricane relief effort by this fine organization is a dramatic example of what these folks have been doing for generations! I can tell you, first hand, that the Salvation Army is first class. They helped me - a long time ago - in a small way. I have not forgotten! Please remember the Salvation Army when you consider your next charitable donation.
We're "Martha-ed Out!"
The Martha Stewart "Apprentice" show bombed! Only about 7 million viewers tuned in last Wednesday night. Then, on Sunday, CBS's Stewart bio-movie "Martha Behind Bars" was watched by a less than modest 7.5 million -- compare this with the nearly 13 million the CBS Sunday flick opened with last fall when it aired "Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman."
I think we are Martha-ed out, in reality. Is that a good thing?
A Bump For Mrs. Trump
Congratulations to Donald & Melania. It's refreshing to see celebrities reproducing within wedlock. Melania is one celeb mom-to-be who won't be parading around like the tacky ones you see on the cover of the National Enquirer.
I've always liked the Donald. Mostly because he's smart and seems to "cut to the chase." I also think his taste in women is improving with age.
Again congratulations to these crazy kids!
No Delay 4 DeLay
It amazes me that the people who are supposed to be intelligent are so often caught doing dumb things! House Majority Leader Tom DeLay has been indicted on conspiracy charges. Something about campaign money. If he is proven guilty he would be dumb for the wrong doing and dumber for being caught. Let's hope that he doesn't progress along the "road of dumb" by trying to lie about this, or worse, trying for a "cover up." Republican or Democrat, we should all wait for this to "play out." There's plenty of time to condemn the guilty....and the dumb.
Anna Nicole Tries Again
Anna Nicole Smith, the former stripper, Playboy bunny, Guess jeans model and reality TV star, is fighting for the $474 million inheritance of her 90-year-old late husband, oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II. He was 89 and she was 26 when they wed in 1994, and she claims he promised her millions but that his scheming son, E. Pierce Marshall, sliced her out of the estate like an overripe melon.
A long legal war has so far netted Smith not a dime of Marshall's money. An initial $474 million award was reduced to about $89 million, then thrown out altogether by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. The appeals court said that a Texas probate court's decision that the oilman's son was his sole heir should stand. The appeals court's ruling was based on its contention that California had no jurisdiction in the case. It's that aspect of the ruling that Smith is challenging, and which the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear in a case that will likely begin arguments early next year.

Bayh Bayh
The following is an editorial from the Indianapolis Star. It's just another reason why I hate politicians......
September 26, 2005
Today's Editorial: Bayh's vote verifies his plans for 2008
Our position: Senator's decision to vote against Supreme Court nominee is pure political posturing.
Evan Bayh has erased any doubt that he's running for president in 2008.
Indiana's junior senator announced Friday that he will vote against Indiana's John Roberts to be the next chief justice of the United States.
Roberts was sharp and insightful during four days of testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee this month. His intellect, command of the law and steady temperament won widespread praise, including from several Democratic senators. The committee's 13-5 vote to recommend approval of Roberts as the next chief justice was in the end a formality. His approval for the post this week on the Senate floor also appears all but certain.
So why did Bayh decide to oppose such a highly qualified nominee? His official statement gave a vague answer about Roberts' supposed vagueness before the Judiciary Committee.
The real answer, however, is political posturing. Bayh, who has been training for a presidential run for years, knows that Democratic primary voters tend to be well to the left of most Americans. He doesn't want a vote for Roberts to be used against him by hyperventilating political action committees come time of the Iowa caucuses or the New Hampshire primary. On a purely political level, Bayh's vote makes sense.
Voters back home in Indiana, however, have every right to be outraged. Bayh went to Washington talking about Hoosier values. He clearly lost them along the way.

Anti War?
This past weekend, I saw an anti war protest on TV.
Let's think about this for a minute...
Anti war.
We are all anti war. Nobody wants to see our soldiers die. If you say that our president wants to see our soldiers die, you are being stupid.
The anti war rally on TV was an effort to spread sentiment against our efforts in Iraq. Our mission in Iraq is being slowed by suicide bombers. These people are terrorists. They are of the same ilk as those who were and are responsible for the 9/11 attacks. They are the people who are responsible for the strong airport security in this country and every country around the world. The war that is going on is a war on terror. It is not an easy war to win and it will not be completed in Iraq.
During the Viet Nam Era there was a popular peace slogan. It went: "What if they gave a war and nobody showed up?" Clever? Well, the military draft was going on, so there was always an ample supply of us to go around. (Too patriotic to leave the country or to fake an ailment.) Fast forward to the war on terror. It's being fought by volunteers. Some chose to join the military for free college tuition. If that was your reason for joining in the middle of a war, maybe you're not college material, anyway. Many have volunteered to go on to a second or third tour of duty in Iraq. I saw the mother of one of these soldiers, on TV, at the anti-war rally. The logic escapes me.
It is interesting, however, to see that people say that they support the military even if they might not support the war effort.

The Queen Of The Internet!
Any idea on who is the most "searched for" person on the internet? The picture, left, gives it away, of course. Lycos recently announced that in the past 10 years, Pamela Anderson has earned that distinction. That's OK with me. She has become a very wealthy woman dispite her relative lack of talent as an actress. The reason, I guess, that I am drawing attention to this milestone for Miss Pammy is that if she is what the world wants on the internet (and you are on the internet, now) maybe I should provide some wholesome pictures of my close personal friend, Pamela. Enyoy...

Lil' Kim
Lil' Kim begins a 366 day prison sentence. She had been convicted of lying under oath. She's a fine example for the youth of America! Don't we have someone of equal or greater talent for our young people to look up to? It's not just Lil' Kim,you can find poor examples of American adults in the field of pro sport, hollywood, politics, etc. I'm fed up with it. It exists because we like the bad boy...or girl. Being bad is the opposite of being boring? No, being talented and presenting yourself in a positive light will make you and your peeps more money in the long run...and just might help to get you elected to governor of a large state. Like Arny and Ron.

What time is it?
Hey - if you don't live in Indiana, you may find this amusing.
In Indiana we do not change our clocks in the spring nor in the fall.
In the winter we are on New York Time.
In the Summer, we are on Chicago Time.
Problem? If Indiana were an island, it would not be a problem. Since Indiana is not an island, social and economic hassles arise from this inconsistancy.
Perhaps the State of Indiana should launch a study. I would be happy to conduct it for a modest fee of say, $20,000. I would measure the distance from Indiana to Chicago. Then I would measure the distance from Indiana to New York City. Based on this data, I would offer a suggestion as to which time zone we should consistantly observe.
Why is this important? If you say that it is important to the farmers, you are wrong. Crops will soak up the same amount of sunshine even if the sun rose at midnight (local time)! This is important for MONEY! Let's say you own a big company and you want to put a factory somewhere in the USA. This factory will employ thousands of workers and it will do business with other businesses around the USA and the world. You'd want to put your company in a place where transportation is good, where the local work ethic is good and in a location close to Chicago, St. Louis, Cincinnati, etc. Your factory would routinely be doing business with other companies within the midwest and around the world. Wouldn't it be convenient for your customers and for your suppliers (and for you) to have your business located in a part of the country where the local time remains consistantly relative to the rest of the USA?
Here's another point. I live in Illinois. I work in Indiana. In the Summer, I live and work in the same time zone. Eastern Standard Time is the same as Central Daylight Time. In the winter there is an hour's difference between my home and my work. This means that it takes me an hour and a half to get to work, but a negative half hour to get home.
I say this is dumb, but it's something I can get used to because of my career...I have no choice. The consumer has a choice. If you live in Illinois and you get off work at 5PM CST, it's already 6PM in Indiana (EST). A retail business in Illinois would more likely be open and would be a more convenient choice for you. The Illinois business owner knows this and is able (sometimes) to charge more money for the same merchandise. To summerize, the Indiana business owner loses your business and the Illinois consumer mays more.

Patrece Dayton - Hasty Comment
So I'm watching TV and I see a news promo for the local station's news. The anchor, Patrece Dayton, refers to President Bush's nomination of John Roberts for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, a HASTY DECISION! Let's back up a bit and assume that the tv audience has maybe a little bit of sense. Much of the significance of Bush's election to the presidency was that he would get to pick nominations to the Supreme Court. Among the aging associate justices, we had a Chief Justice who was suffering from throid cancer. Patrece, do you think that GW just met John Roberts recently? Don't you think that Roberts was on GW's "short list" for the Supreme Court for years? Of course he was! This was not a hasty decision. Yes, Roberts was, at first, named to replace retiring Judge O'Conner. Another opening came. Rehnquist's health has not been a secret. I am sure that our President knew that Rehnquist's days were numbered. Also, Patrece, you may be interested to know that the Chief Justice has one vote on judicial matters. The associate justices also have one vote.
Calling the Roberts nomination a HASTY DECISION makes it look like you disapprove. Psst, nobody gives a rat's ass about your personal feelings. Why this article, then? Because of the mainstream media declaration that President Bush made a hasty decision in nominating Roberts to the Chief Justice position. This is opinion (to show disapproval), not fact.
This is why I choose to not watch news on your TV station. Your ratings are a mystery to me...but then, that's my opinion.

Labor Day Weekend
Let's see...Labor Day weekend... I saw an ad in the paper for a seasonal close out on power lawn mowers at Menard's. Drove 20 miles to the local Menards and guess what? They didn't have any. I mean none of the three advertised models. This was on Sunday and the ad was in the Sunday paper. What did I do? What more and more Americans seem to be doing, I went to Wal-Mart and bought a lawn mower. It was $20 cheeper than the advertised model that Menard's did not have!
