The folks at Good Morning America are faced with the most difficult task in television. They have to replace Charles Gibson, co host of GMA.
Here's what they should do: Consult with Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts. Diane and Robin know what is best for themselves and what is best for the show. Male or female? Usually you would replace a male with a male in a situation like this. Balance is important. Tom Bergeron is the frontrunner to replace Gibson, but Bryant Gumbel is high on the list as well. Didn't we already see Gumbel try this? Does ABC have a dressing room large enough for Gumbel? He was part of the #1 "Today Show" and later part of CBS' on going morning struggle. I think that naming him to replace Charles Gibson would be a mistake.
Other names being considered, according to the New York Post, are New York newsman Bill Ritter, who co-anchored "GMA Sunday” from 1993 to 1999; and "GMA Weekend Edition" co-anchor Bill Weir. I'd pick Weir over any of the above. He has a quick mind, is reasonably good looking (it's TV) and is SMART. Smart enough to do what he's told and then branch out from there.
