Statue of Liberty Turns 125

I have been there three times. Visiting the Statue of Liberty is always an awesome experience.

Today is the 125th anniversary of its dedication - Liberty Enlightening the World. It sits on a 150 foot high pedestal on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. She was designed by Frédéric Bartholdi and was a gift to the United States from the people of France Liberty is of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tablet evoking the law upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. A broken chain lies at her feet.

As a 14 year old boy, my grandfather's first view of his new country was the Statue of Liberty. Pretty cool...still is.
