Don't complain about the price of gas! I don't want to hear it.
16 years ago, the price of gas was around $1. We thought the world was coming to an end. It wasn't. People continued to buy cars that get 15-20 miles per gallon....and guess what? Generally, the worse the gas mileage that a car gets, the higher the window sticker was. So if you have a gas hog that you paid dearly for, you're going to pay dearly at the pump. It was your choice to buy the gas hog in the first place. The handwriting was on the wall 16 years ago!
The worst part is the way that people drive. Gas mileage decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph. Each 5 mph you drive over 60 mph is like paying an additional $0.10 per gallon for gas. Observing the speed limit is also safer.
I live in a rural area. Most of my commute is in a 55 MPH speed zone. The road is largely not patrolled by the local sheriff, so the actual speed it is "anything goes." I am routinely passed by cars and trucks that have a sustained speed of 80 MPH or more.
I get 37 MPG in my car on the highway. The people passing me are getting about half of that mileage. Add their speed to the equasion and it is as if they are paying $4.50 per gallon as compared with my $2.10 per gallon.
So if you are driving "something" that gets less than 20 MPG and you start complaining about the price of gas, SHUT UP! If you drive 80 in a 55, SHUT UP!
Oh....and stay off the cell phone...
