I would rather that this blog not turn into an obituary column. I am saddened, this morning to hear of the passing of Johnny Maestro, most recently of the Brooklyn Bridge and formerly of The Crests. As a kid growing up in Mt. Vernon, NY, I used to listen to him...a lot. He was among the best of the doo wop acts. Strong voice, perfectionist and great guy! Again, he was one of those pros who loved what he did and performed up to the end. Johnny had cancer. Knowing that the end was near, he left a message for his fans, click here.
Johnny was 70. Plenty of his music is featured on YouTube. This is one of my favorites.
R.I.P. Mr. Maestro.
