PETA has recognized the New York City Police Department and The Chicago Transit Authority for their methods of handling their respective mice problems. NYC had been using glue traps which trap the mice, causing them to fight a losing battle until death. In New York, a conventional, old fashioned trap replaces the glue strips. In Chicago, on subway platforms and in bus stations they use boxes containing bait to lure and trap mice.
A PETA spokesman says the best anti-rodent devices are ammonia-soaked rags. "Rodents hate the smell and it'll drive them away." PETA also suggests using sonic devices that scare the rodents away.
