Here's one to make us all feel good. Jennifer Mazzotta-Perretti is a teacher at Nassau BOCES in Wantagh, Long Island, NY. She gave her creative writing class an assignment to write about their experiences doing good deeds.
One student in her summer creative writing class posed the question: Would you give life to someone else if you didn't have to give up your own? She said yes, she would.
Then he asked if she would donate one of her kidneys - to him. Again, she said yes. After a battery of tests, the organ donation was done. High school student Kevin O'Brien has had a history of kidney problems. His teacher saved his life with the kindness of her kidney donation.
In researching this story I found two other cases where teachers have donated a kidney to a student.
Amazing.
