St. Louis native Chuck Berry is to be honored, in July with the dedication of an 8 foot statue of his likeness. This is planned to happen in a plaza in University City, near the Blueberry Hill nightclub where the 84 year old Rock & Roll pioneer performs once a month.
While the installation has been approved, 86 year old Elsie Glickert says that she wants the whole thing to be reviewed.
Elsie says that Chuck Berry is a convicted felon and "no friend of women." True, Berry was convicted of a violation of The Mann Act. He served 3 years. Personally, I think his arrest and conviction smell a little fishy.
The statue is what it is: A tribute to a Rock & Roll icon.
If we eliminated statues of people who have skeletons in their closets, we would have no statues!
