Robert Byrd of West Virginia holds the record as the longest serving Senator in US history. He's been representing WV since 1958. He makes the news, or at least this blog, since being rushed to the hospital on Friday. His office announced today that the Senator had an elevated temperature due to a minor infection. He's being treated with antibiotics and should be out of the hospital in a few days.
The statement did not say why no word was released for more than 48 hours after the senator was taken to the hospital (I guess they don't work on weekends), nor did it identify the facility where he is being treated - probably one within the Senate's HMO.
