In a surprising upset decision, Rio de Janeiro has been chosen as the host city for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Many considered Chicago to have an edge. Here are a few thoughts on the subject. There has never been an Olympiad in South America! There's a chance, just a slight chance that the rest of the world may be a little tired of the USA hosting the games. I know that this is a stretch, but it is a possibility.
For the record, Chicago was eliminated on the first ballot! Next to get the thumbs down was Tokyo followed Madrid which finished as runner up.
So, as the good sports that we should be, we say congratulations to Rio and "Better luck, next time, Chicago."
