LAPD Can't Afford To Run New Jail!

The new $70 Million dollar Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center is a multi story 172 square foot facility...just one problem: it's empty. It looks like it will remain empty until they can figure out how to staff the place. Los Angeles is broke...on paper. Their budget is maxed out and there's a hiring freeze and they need at least 44 additional people to run the place.

This is what happens when your tax base shrinks. Taxpayers are replaced by people who get a check in the mail. Isn't there money in California? Of course there is - it's where Hollywood is, right? Los Angeles could get help from the State - sell the jail to the State and lease it for the city.

Oh, that's right...the State's broke too.
