World's Most Expensive Dog

I had a dog when I was a kid. Actually I shared the dog with three brothers and three sisters. The dog was a mutt which was given to us by a family friend. We loved that dog and couldn't imagine that there could be a better or smarter dog in the world.

"Big Splash" - Top Dog

Well, meet Big Splash.

He's a red Tibetan mastiff standing 3 feet tall and tipping the scales at 180 pounds.

This dog was sold at auction, this week in Eastern China, for 10 million yuan - that's $1.5 million.  His new owner was not identified except that he made his fortune in the coal business.

Tibetan mastiffs are one of the oldest breeds in the world. Legend has it that Genghis Khan had one and so did the Buddha. Tibetan mastiffs are said to have guarded nomad camps and monasteries, and are rarely seen outside of Tibet.

Of course, paying $1.5 million for a dog is way over the top.  Still, it would be neat if the new owner has kids to play with the dog.
