For nine years, actor Paul Marcarelli, 41, was the "Can you hear me now?" pitchman for Verizon. The phone company has dropped him from their advertising plans.
Marcarelli "got the word" in an e-mail (ad agencies can be so classy) last September. During the past 9 years, he recorded 20-40 Verizon commercials per year for up to $6,000 for each. He also made numerous personal appearances. During this time he was under contract to only work for Verizon.
The ad campaign was one of the most successful in history. Ironically, will we ever be ever to watch him in a movie or on TV without expecting him to whip out a cell phone and say, "Can you hear me now?"
