The BioBug is a modified VW New Beetle which runs on regular unleaded gasoline and switches to compressed methane gas when the engine reaches a certain temperature. When the methane is "exhausted," the car switches back to gasoline. In the "methane mode" the BioBug can reach speeds of 114 MPH! The bad news is that the car gets only 5.3 miles on a cubic meter of compressed methane gas. Actually, I am told that any car can be converted to this system. They do this in Bulgaria for around $1,000. I'm sure that it would cost more in the USA because the government would find it necessary to tax the conversion and the methane...since they are losing gasoline excise tax money! So, the consumer would not save much money, if any. It is a "greener" way to go.
I wonder what the exhaust smells like?
