The New York Daily News reports this morning that New York Yankee owner George Steinbrenner has died. The paper reports that the 80 year old suffered a fatal heart attack. He had been in ill health for the past few years.
Steinbrenner bought the Yanks in 1973 for $10 million. The team is now worth billions. He was a businessman and a fan...in that order. I don't agree with everything that he did, but, he turned the Yankees into winners. He believed that the Yankee franchise should be the best in baseball and he put his money where his mouth was! For that he should be respected by fans and by opponents. Under his ownership and direction, the Yankees won 11 pennants ant 7 Championships. "The Boss" will be missed!
R.I.P. Mr. Steinbrenner.
