The Village People probably don't care about this. The YMCA wants to be known as "The Y." Why "The Y?" We've been calling it "The Y" for as long as I can remember! Some call it "The Y" because they act like they are in a hurry. Others, because they want to sound cool. Well, now it's official, it's now officially called what people have been calling it for decades.
